.In this June 26, 2023, picture derived from the International Space Station, direct sunlight polishes off the smooth waters of the Alabama Stream in a sensation called sunglint. When capturing on film Earth, rocketeers typically take advantage of sunglint's possibility to improve the contrast between water surfaces as well as neighboring land surface areas. In the 1960s, the Alabama River was repressed, making Dannelly Storage tank (the large shining location at center left). Building and construction of the dam likewise raised water levels upriver. This caused flooding at several points along the waterway. These flooded zones are regular of floodplains-- the low, flat places immediately close to much larger rivers. Within this image, flooded zones look like rough, bright designs extending off of the stream, like at Gee's Bend (center base).Text Credit Scores: Justin Wilkinson.Picture Credit History: NASA/Woody Hoburg.
